What is a Makerspace?

Makerspaces provide materials and resources to foster learning through inquiry.  It is designed to challenge students to create and learn through hands-on, personalized experiences.  It also provides opportunities for students to design, discover and collaborate.

• The 4 C's of Makerspaces: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication
• Enhances creative thinking by building new ideas in specific contexts
• Creates open-ended challenges
• Teaches social skills by cooperation in construction, taking turns with tools and resources, and building community
• Builds problem solving skills and resilience
• Strengthens self esteem by children setting their own goals, and discovering the best way to reach that goal
• Develops fine and large motor skills 
• Develops math concepts and skills: spatial awareness, measurement, and 3D shapes
• Develops science concepts and skills: asking questions, planning projects, and analyzing outcomes
• Increases language skills through discussion and working in small groups
